Notice Board

Prime Minister Harper wishes all the men and women working in the public works industry all the best during National Public Works Week.

The Canadian Public Works Association has worked diligently to promote the value of both the association and the industry to all levels of government.

Across North America, more than 28,000 APWA members in the US and Canada celebrate Public Works Week and use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of the contribution of public works to their daily lives.

Each year, the men and women in the public works industry demonstrate the value of public works by enhancing communities across the province. We are asking that all levels of government, including municipalities recognize these contributions by proclaiming the third week of every May Public Works Week.

We have a sample proclamation and would request that if your community does recognize the week that you issue a copy to our association. Also – we recognize municipalities that have produced events or recognition for public works week as part of our Project of the Year Awards (please click here for the POTY nomination forms).

If you have questions about National Public Works Week, please contact Stacy Byer at 403-990-2792.

The Alberta Chapter is accepting applications for the Project of the Year Awards.

The Project of the Year Awards recognize excellence in the construction, management, and administration of public works projects in Alberta. We are pleased to include categories for National Public Works Week Celebrations as well as Distinguished Service and Emerging Leader.

This remains a great way to celebrate public works innovation that exists across Alberta. In addition to recognition at the annual Partners in Excellence Conference & Tradeshow, the association will also arrange a presentation to municipal councils. For a complete breakdown of award categories, click here.
